P&O Cruises Australia

P&O Australia is one of the best-loved cruise lines in Australia and New Zealand. It offers cruisers 3 laid-back and fun ships with all the amenities needed for an active or a relaxing sunny holiday.

But what are the roots of this favourite holiday provider? A sister company of P&O in the UK, owned by the Carnival Corporation, it began as the Peninsular and Oriental Steamship Company which began in the early 19th century. P&O was the first comapny to offer passenger routes to Australia, starting a long tradition of Aussie passengers! These eventually became the cruise holidays we know and love. Previous ships sailing for P&O Australia have included the Pacific Sky, the Pacific Star and the recently-retired Pacific Sun. The current fleet consist of the Pacific Dawn. previously Princess's Regal Princess, the Pacific Jewel, previously Ocean Village 2, and the Pacific Pearl, previously Ocean Village.

In 2009, P&O Australia lent aid to victims of the earthquake and tsunami in southeast Asia and the South Pacific, donating mattresses, pillows and lightbulbs. The Pacific Sun helped to celebrate Australia Day this year with a patriotic flag, and P&O Cruises as a whole recently celebrated 175 years of cruising, with past passengers uploading memories to 175yearsofcruising.com.au.

The line is the only big-ship line based exclusively in Australia, and it caters well to this market with the fun atmosphere, family-friendly programmes including great kids clubs, and sunny South Pacific destinations. There are a variety of activities to partake in during sea days- sports, parties, trivia, yoga and the spa, talent show and more. There are plenty of bars, a casino and a theatre- the nightlife is great on P&O ships, and so is the food. You can eat at traditional seatings or whenever you want in the main dining room and buffet, or try one of the specialty restaurants- chief amongst which is celebrity chef Luke Mangan's Salt Grill which is on all 3 ships. Most importantly, there is plenty of opportunity for fun in the South Pacific sun!
